Valve updates VRS rules — teams can only be listed in one region
Valve has updated the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) system for CS2. The change in the ranking structure was highlighted by dataminer Thour, who posted the relevant information on X (formerly Twitter).

Following the update, teams will now appear only in one regional ranking. In controversial cases, a team will automatically be placed in the stronger region — presumably the one with higher competition. Valve likely introduced this rule to prevent teams from selecting the most favorable region for themselves in order to receive invites to tournaments over local lineups.
Previously, Valve also canceled the Major Regional Qualifiers (MRQ) for the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025. According to the new rules, 32 of the best teams based on the CS2 developer ranking will now participate in the Major.
